Nursing Degree Course At NYP This September

Nursing Degree Course At NYP This SeptemberIn quest to make the occupation of nursing popular among the young students, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) in collaboration with the University Of Manchester (UOM), has decided to set an honours bachelor’s degree in nursing, starting this September.

The two-year-course will be imparted at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and will provide admissions to no less than 70 pupils.

Reportedly, NYP already provides a diploma course in nursing. Along with Ngee Ann Polytechnic, this institution churns out nearly 1,000 nurses every year.

At the launch program, Ng Eng Hen, the Education Minister, counted the number of benefits the society enjoys because of nurses. He emphasized the need of qualified and registered nurses, as he revealed that nurses have 40% share in every healthcare institution.

Dr. Ng also announced for scholarships meant for academically bright students and economically poorer ones, which will be sponsored by five primary health care groups.

Professor Karen Luker, Dean of the School of Nursing Midwifery, expressed her satisfaction over this decision and said that this step can help young students to take interests in the profession.

The Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), as a part of its UOM programme, will impart training in research and palliative care. Anyone with nursing diploma and relevant working experience is eligible to enroll for this course.
