A top Iranian military official says the United States has failed to establish an American-style Middle East, as an Islamic wave is sweeping over the region.

“The US has failed to create a Great Middle East and now the Islamic Revolution has got a chance to develop its Islamic, spiritual model in the region,” ISNA quoted Brigadier General Yahya Rahim-Safavi, senior military adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as saying on Friday.

“What we are witnessing after the defeat of the Zionist regime (Israel) in the 33-day and 22-day wars as well as the developments in Egypt and other Islamic Arabic countries show that … an Islamic Middle East has been formed,” he added.

He further pointed out that establishing a “US-style” Middle East was among key reasons behind US-led invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, which were carried out under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

According to the senior military official, the US was also planning an attack on Iran but the "wise and brave policies of the great Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the prowess of [Iran's] armed forces and the quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan” were among factors that prevented a US attack on the Islamic Republic.

General Safavi went on to say that the military presence of foreign forces in the region was also aimed at undermining Iran's political influence.

He, however, said that such attempts were proved abortive as the Islamic Revolution was moving forward progressively and the “political, military and cultural influence” of Iran played a major role in awakening the regional countries. source
